That looks weird. What I would do next is modify the script so that
the temporary file (which is used to hold the SQL output) is not
tidied up as the script runs. You should then be able to run the
script as a test and inspect the reply from the DB.

I imagine that the "YES" value is not really being returned from the
DB here, but that some unexpected formatting is causing it to be
used instead of the correct integer. If so, it may be possible to
eliminate it by being more flexible when parsing the results.
