I have increased the time to run the script to be every
ten minutes. Several hours later I will get a purple dot.
When I click on the purple dot, the time beside the purple
message (purple Mon Aug 21 14:43:07 2006) is always a minute
or more behind the time under "last update". Is this an
indication of something being out of sync or is this normal?
This is not happening because the times are older than 30
minutes. The times are actually within 5 to 10 minutes from
the actual time. So having a purple dot show up that quick
is confusing.
I have tried to setup the "time to live" but it does not
seem to be working. Per the archives the format is:
./bb 123.123.123.123 "status+1440 test.test hello world"
where
123.123.123.123 is ip address of BBDISPLAY
test.test would be machinename.test
hello world would be a status message
This does not include a color code, so should green be in
there somewhere?

Another thing that you could do is to modify the script so
that it creates a semaphore file on start-up and will not
run a second copy until the first one completes. You could
also run the script less frequently than the default and
increase the "time to live". In your place, I would start
by running it every 15 minutes and let the status remain
valid for 45 minutes or 1 hour.
Cheers. Phil.
