The TTL is triggered by the timestamp on the status file. It is
set to the required future time (now + purple delay) when the status
is updated and triggers "purple" when it falls behind the current
time.

The format is actually:

  $BB $BBDISP "status+1440 host,name,net.test green `date`
Your Message Here."

This is from section 6.9 of the on-line manual. Note that you can
(and probably should) use those variables if you have loaded the
BB environment in the script. It helps to keep things from getting
out of step. Also note that the host name (if FQDN) is comma
separated and then a dot (period) before the test name. The "date"
command may not be strictly necessary, but it's a good idea to
include it.
