Re: {bb} Still Having Purple Problems

Here is an example from this morning per the History button:

Fri Aug 25 10:29:56 2006 0:07:01 purple
Fri Aug 25 10:29:11 2006 0:00:45 red
Fri Aug 25 10:29:10 2006 0:00:01 green
Fri Aug 25 10:05:49 2006 0:23:21 red
Fri Aug 25 10:05:48 2006 0:00:01 green
Fri Aug 25 09:42:30 2006 0:23:18 red
Fri Aug 25 09:42:30 2006 0:00:00 green
Fri Aug 25 09:19:09 2006 0:23:21 red
Fri Aug 25 09:19:08 2006 0:00:01 green
Fri Aug 25 08:55:46 2006 0:23:22 red
Fri Aug 25 08:55:46 2006 0:00:00 green
Fri Aug 25 08:32:27 2006 0:23:19 red
Fri Aug 25 08:32:27 2006 0:00:00 green
Fri Aug 25 08:09:06 2006 0:23:21 red

I'm still puzzled as to why it goes to purple when 30 minutes
have not passed. Does the status file have a name and where
is it located?

I have increased the time to run the script to be every

When I click on the purple dot, the time beside the purple
message (purple Mon Aug 21 14:43:07 2006) is always a minute
or more behind the time under "last update". Is this an
indication of something being out of sync or is this normal?
This is not happening because the times are older than 30
minutes. The times are actually within 5 to 10 minutes from
the actual time. So having a purple dot show up that quick
is confusing.

The TTL is triggered by the timestamp on the status file. It is set to the required future time (now + purple delay) when the status is updated and triggers "purple" when it falls behind the current time.

I have tried to setup the "time to live" but it does not
seem to be working. Per the archives the format is:
 ./bb 123.123.123.123 "status+1440 test.test hello world"
where
123.123.123.123 is ip address of BBDISPLAY
  test.test would be machinename.test
hello world would be a status message
This does not include a color code, so should green be in
there somewhere?

The format is actually:

  $BB $BBDISP "status+1440 host,name,net.test green `date`
Your Message Here."

This is from section 6.9 of the on-line manual. Note that you can
(and probably should) use those variables if you have loaded the
BB environment in the script. It helps to keep things from getting
out of step. Also note that the host name (if FQDN) is comma
separated and then a dot (period) before the test name. The "date"
command may not be strictly necessary, but it's a good idea to
include it.

Cheers, Phil.
