I thought I'd found the answer. ..I did a 'locate sxiproc02' and found:
[bbuser@bigbrother-02 etc]$ locate sxiproc02
/usr/local/bb/bb1.9i-btf/tmp/np_Steve.Sayler@noaa.gov_sxiproc02.conn
/usr/local/bb/bb1.9i-btf/tmp/np_root@bigbrother-02.sec.noaa.gov_sxiproc02.conn
[bbuser@bigbrother-02 etc]$ /etc/rc.d/init.d/runbb
stop
[bbuser@bigbrother-02 etc]$
rm -rf
/usr/local/bb/bb1.9i-btf/tmp/np_Steve.Sayler@noaa.gov_sxiproc02.conn
[bbuser@bigbrother-02 etc]$ rm -rf /usr/local/bb/bb1.9i-btf/tmp/np_root@bigbrother-02.sec.noaa.gov_sxiproc02.conn
[bbuser@bigbrother-02 etc]$
/etc/rc.d/init.d/runbb start
so I stopped big brother, removed those files, ... but once I restated
bb , I get the flood of emails (this is an axample of just one machine,
I'm getting emails from the 5 machines in all), ... and those
/usr/local/bb/bb1.9i-btf/tmp files re-appear.
[bbuser@bigbrother-02 etc]$ locate sxiproc02
/usr/local/bb/bb1.9i-btf/tmp/np_Steve.Sayler@noaa.gov_sxiproc02.conn
/usr/local/bb/bb1.9i-btf/tmp/np_root@bigbrother-02.sec.noaa.gov_sxiproc02.conn

This is frustrating, with my bb-1.9i system, I'm getting messages like
crazy (about every 300 min) from several machines that my Win sys-admin
removed from the network w/o telling me. I edited the bb-hosts
file to remove the machines, and then ran bin/bbrm 'hostname'
on each machine that was removed from the network. That was Wed., and
I'm still getting emails today (Fri) every 300 or so minutes. Here is
the email I receive:

This entry is no longer listed in /usr/local/bb/bb/etc/bb-hosts. To remove this
purple message, please delete the log files for this host located in
_BBLOGS, _BBHIST and _BBHISTLOGS if this host is no longer monitored
Please see: http://bigbrother-02.sec.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/bb-hostsvc.sh?HOSTSVC=sxiproc02.conn
I've examined bbvar/hist/ bbvar/histlogs/ and bbvar/logs/ for
any traces of the machine(s) names, and there is nothing present.
and... Whats even weirder, is that the link (above) reports the
following when clicked:
ERROR!
bb-hostsvc.sh called with invalid arguments
additional info:
bbwarnrules.cfg:*;;*;;1-5;*;pg-bb
bbwarnsetup.cfg:pg-bb:Steve.Sayler@noaa.gov
bbwarnsetup.cfg:pagerecovered: FALSE
bbwarnsetup.cfg:pagedelay: 150
bbwarnsetup.cfg:pagelevels: red purple
bbwarnsetup.cfg:pagetype: EVENT
Any ideas?
