{bb} How to change message expiration timeout?

I'm trying to  decrease timeout for expiration alerts about messages.
I found MSGEXPIRE variable into bb-msgs.sh:

MSGEXPIRE="10:20"       # EXPIRE WARNINGS IN 10 MIN, PANICS IN 20

I changed these values to "5:5", restarted BB client, but it didn't help
- after single bad message in /var/log/messages I have "msgs" tab yellow
for 30 minutes - exactly as before.
