The only specific advice that I remember concerning Microsoft DNS is
to avoid it at all costs. That may no longer be valid, however, and
it's no help if you have no choice.

If you can get at the "serial" number for the domains that you are
interested in, with something like:

    dig @dns.mydomain.com mydomain.com SOA

then you can compare them and alert if they stay out if sync for too
long. This does not guard against someone forgetting to update the
"serial" number when they change the master, it only the checks the
update process.
