I'd read that to say that SuSE have decided to move the "ping" command
to the /bin directory (probably from /usr/bin). I would doubt that it
is significant with respect to the BBVAR problem.

Well, as long as you are using the BTF version, strictly speaking, you
are :) Of course, if you don't know how to read Bourne(-ish) shell and
C code, it might as well be written in Klingon. However, for those with
even partial fluency, the source code is often an invaluable resource.
